VC Take on SocialNet Numbers

Lightspeed Partners’ Jeremy Liew slices and dices comScore data attempting to reveal more insights about what and who is working in the space. MySpace and Facebook dominate. Interesting movers: Orkut and Bebo, although still small in numbers, are currently pulling down the usage drivers Lightspeed was studying. One challenge to the research is that it still uses the trailing metric of page views as a proxy for engagement, which we believe will overlook some of the huge value driven within Facebook via open APIs/widgets developments.
